September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day, but this issue is one to be addressed every day. This issue matters. The people who are experiencing it matter.
Sometimes life can feel tough. Experiencing the feeling of not being able to cope with pain is common and having suicidal thoughts is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s okay to not feel okay, and you don’t have to go through it alone. When I didn’t know that, I suffered alone and in silence. But, reaching out and getting support helped me through it, and continues to when I need it.
We all can help prevent suicide. Connection and relationship is key, but sometimes we don’t reach out to others, even those closest to us, because we are afraid or because we don’t know what to say or do. But, we might not know what someone is going through unless we ask. I’ll share with you what one of my professors shared with me, “don’t do nothing.” A simple place to start is by asking each other more, “How are you doing?”
If life feels tough right now, or if you’ve been affected by suicide, and you need to talk, I’m here. Send me an email. You’re not alone.
Sending you love!
